Richard Monette (1944-2008)
Richard Monette left a substantial theatrical legacy as the longest-serving and most successful artistic director in Stratford Festival history. As an actor, he was best known for his portrayal of an Elizabeth Taylor-obsessed transvestite in Michel Tremblay's Hosanna at Toronto's Tarragon Theatre, as well as over 40 roles at Stratford. In recent years he launched the Festival's Studio Theatre and its Birmingham Conservatory of Classical Theatre Training.
